Boards are a fundamental part of forums, where topics are posted. Boards are displayed on the [[Board index]] and should be organized into [[Category]] to make it easier for viewers.

When a board is placed inside a board it is called a [[child board]]. A board with child board s is called a [[parent board]]. Administrators set who can see and post to the board and set other board options.
When a board is placed inside a board it is called a child board, or sub board. A board with [[child board]]s is called a [[parent board]]. For example, take this board layout:

** Birds and Reptiles
* Training Your Pets
 
In this case, ''Household Pets'' is a parent board. The child boards are the two boards beneath it: ''Dogs and Cats'' and ''Birds and Reptiles''. ''Training Your Pet'' is just a regular board. If the ''Dogs and Cats'' board were to branch off into the breeds of each animal then it would be both a parent and a child. Its children would be called grandchildren. In summary, the names of the boards reflect their layout:
