==How to translate these pages==
These translations will be done using a wiki extension called the [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Translate Translate extension], provided by the translatewiki team. To begin, go the base page to be translated. If you have permission to translate, you will see a link titled "Translate this page" before the content of the page. Follow the link to the Translate form. You'll see the page's name listed in "Group". Choose the language from the drop-down list, and hit the "Fetch" button.
You will see all the language strings which need to be translated. The link for the language string is on the left, and the content is on the right. Click on the link to start an editing window for that string. Above the editing window, you will see the source text, labelled "Message definition".  In the textarea below, you may begin typing in the translation. When you have completed translating the language string, you must use the "Save page" button to save the language string you are editing on this page.

How to translate these pages

These translations will be done using a wiki extension called the Translate extension, provided by the translatewiki team.

Pages not yet ready for translation

These pages already appear in the help tab. Each one requires some work. As each file becomes "stable", it will be released for translation.

  • Logging In - Once registered, users must login to access their account.
  • Profile - Each member has their own personal profile.
  • Calendar - Users can keep track of events, holidays, and birthdays with the calendar.

Some things site admins would like to do to make translation easier and better

First priorities:

  1. Make sure the pages are all in a final version and a "translator friendly" state
  2. Make sure the translate extension is in place and working well. If not done yet, or not enough, we need a few test users and pages to play around with. We already done some of it. Is it usable yet in other opinions?
  1. Add an easy link to Special:PageTranslation for members with pagetranslation permission.
    • There are a few goodies that don't seem in place yet, like knowing that "en" is the main page (not a translated version) or recognizing user's language from sm.org forum.
    • There should be links to available languages for translated/translatable pages directly on the page, a combo perhaps.
  1. Document how the extension works, for administrators and for translators. Useful doc:

http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:Page_translation_feature

This documentation should be in the wiki itself, though a topic/blog on sm.org community forum should point to it.

  1. Import into the wiki the existing translations for a number of pages.
