Local Board Permissions in SMF 1.1.x allow the administrator to set different permissions on different boards. Why would anybody want to do that? Suppose that, on most boards, any member can start a topic. But you want to keep one board just for official announcements. On that board, only club officers (and administrator, of course) can start topics. You need a special set of permissions local to that board.

First you need to enable local permissions, by going to Admin>Permissions>Settings and selecting "Enable advanced by-board permissions".

Next, you can set the "Official Announcements" board to use local permissions, under the "Permissions by board" tab. Click on the board name to add the permissions for each group, or change them. These permissions will only apply to this one particular board. For each board that requires custom permissions, you would need to choose the board name and choose the local board permissions for each member group.

For example, once you have added local permissions for the "Official Announcements" board, you will want to check every membergroup, to make sure that it does not have permission to start a topic. Then, for the "club officers" membergroup, allow permission to start a topic.
