Extract and Upload the Install Archive
Once the install archive has been downloaded, all the files in it will need to be copied to the correct places on your site, before the installer can be executed. Wherever the files are located on the server -- that's where your forum will be located.
There are two methods for this step. You can choose between Extracting before Uploading' and Uploading before Extracting. The choice will depend on the tools you have, and what you feel comfortale with.

SMF can be uploaded to the site root, or to a directory on the site, such as www.yourdomain.com/forum

A new folder should be created, with all the files and directories in the correct places, when the install archive is extracted.
