A member is a person who has registered at a forum. It is usually beneficial for a guest to become a member if they intend to post or use the forum more than once. Members always belong to at least one membergroup.

View All Members

This is the default page when going to the Members section of your admin panel. Here you will see a list of all the members on your forum.

The list of users shows this information:

  • Posts - Their total post count.

The last column is a check box, only select the members you wish to delete. The very top box will check or uncheck all member boxes.

Search For Members

This section allows you to search for members of your forum using many different filters.

Numeric/Date Parameters

These fields allow you to search for specific users or a range, based on the selection of the dropdown and the value you enter in the text box.

The dropdown allows you to select: < (less than), <= (less than or equal to), = (equal to), >= (greater than or equal to), > (greater than)

  • ID - The User ID(s) of the user(s) you wish to search for (e.g. all users with an ID greater than 1296)

  • Join Date - The join date of the user(s) you wish to search for (e.g. all users who joined on 2012-08-05 (05 August 2012))
  • Last Online - The last date which the user(s) you wish to search for logged in to your system (e.g. all users with who have not logged in since 2012-08-05 (05 August 2012))

Text Parameters

These fields allow you to search on text entries in the user's account. The search allows for wild cards (* and ?)

"Mik*" would return users with a value of Mike, Miks, Mika, Miku, Mikhail, Miklemore, Mikpolopolis, etc. It would not return Mick, Mak, etc. "Mik?" would return users with a value of Mike, Miks, Mika, Miku, etc. It would not return Mikhail, Make, etc.

  • Username - This will search for the users' login name (the actual name they registered with)
  • Email Address - This will search the users' email address.
  • Website - This will search the values that users have entered in the "website" field of their profile
  • Location - This will search the values that users have entered in the "location" field of their profile.
  • IP Address - This will search the recorded IP addresses of the user(s)
  • Messenger Address - This will search the SMF Standard messenger fields (MSN, YIM, AIM, ICQ)

Additional Parameters

  • Gender - The checkboxes allow you to narrow the search to Male, Female, Undefined or any combination of those three values
  • Activation Status - The checkboxes allow you to narrow the search to Activated, Not Activated or both.
  • Membergroups - You can narow the search to users who belong to specific membergroups. (Both normal and post-count-based groups are searchable.)

Usage

You can include one field for a broad search or you can add additional search parameters to narrow down the search. Additional parameters added to the search are processed as AND parameters.

e.g. you could search for all Male users under the age of 15 users who have not logged in since 01 January 2013 and have fewer than 10 posts.

Awaiting Approval

This page displays a list of all of the members on your forum that are waiting for their account to be approved by an administrator. This page is only accessible if you have the setting: Method of registration employed for new members set to Member Approval or are using some other method of registration, but have members that registered when member activation was once required.

On the far right of this page are checkboxes that each correspond with the member they are next to. You can click any of the checkboxes you want and then use the selection box at the bottom of the page to pick what you want to do with the members who you checked.

You can perform the following tasks on the members you select on this page:

  • Approve the selected members - This activates the selected members' accounts. They will now be able to login and do whatever their permissions set for them allow them to do. Prior to being approved, unapproved members are presented with this message when they try to login: Your account is still awaiting admin approval.
  • Approve and send email to the selected members - This will approve the selected members' accounts as explained above, but will also email the selected members, notifying them that their accounts were approved.
