When the forum is in Maintenance mode only administrators have access to it. Maintenance mode can be used when access to the database needs to be limited at a minimum level (i.e. during forum upgrade, backup restore, etc.).
It is possible to put the forum in maintenance mode in two ways:
- from the Administration Center > Server settings > General page
- by changing the value of the $maintenance variable in Settings.php.
