It is possible to hide Post Groups for members who are assigned to non-post based Groups. Simply go to the current theme section of your Administration Center (Administration Center > Configuration > Current Theme) and check the Hide post group titles for grouped members box.

SMF 2.1 Go to (Administration Center > Forum > Posts and Topics > Topic Settings) and check the Hide post group titles for grouped members box.
