An SMF installation on a web server is called a forum. SMF itself is called forum software. Each SMF forum can have multiple categories, boards, and child boards.
A forum is an online discussion site where participants can hold conversations by posting messages. SMF is forum software. In SMF, the forum contains [[category|categories]], categories contain [[board]]s, boards contain [[topic]]s, and topics contain a topic post and several reply posts. The terms used to describe how other forum software organizes message topics may be different.
