Boards are a fundamental part of forums, where topics are posted. Boards are displayed on the Board Index and should be organized into categories to make it easier for viewers. When a board is placed inside a board it is called a child board, or sub board. A board with child boards is called a parent board. For example, take this board layout:

  • Household Pets
    • Dogs and Cats
    • Birds and Reptiles
  • Training Your Pets

In this case, Household Pets is a parent board. The child boards are the two boards beneath it: Dogs and Cats and Birds and Reptiles. Training Your Pet is just a regular board. If the Dogs and Cats board were to branch off into the breeds of each animal then it would be both a parent and a child. Its children would be called grandchildren. In summary, the names of the boards reflect their layout:

  • Parent board
    • Child board
    • Child board
  • Parent Board
    • Child Board
    • Child board and parent board
      • Grandchildren
  • Regular Board

Administrators can set permissions by board, and select which membergroups have access to it through their Administration Center. Administrators can set many more options per board, such as themes and whether the posts inside the board will increase a members post count or not.
